‘Sidestep / multiplied // insolently’

IMC5533

‘Sidestep / multiplied // insolently’ opens on Saturday October 14 at 5533, curated by Fırat Yusuf Yılmaz and in collaboration with MATCA art space. Bringing together the works of Betül Aksu, Musa Alpar, Dan Beudean, Barış Çavuşoğlu, Vovo - the Child of Atom, Alexandra Mocan and Soodeh Karimi, the exhibition revolves around glitch punk narrative, incorporating pirate information spreading methods on online networks, political noises, bureaucratic slips, dead pixels and punk-like below-the-belt resistance tactics. Re-coding glitches as shameless disobedience potentials, the exhibition adopts a disruptive rustle and distorts the signal by creating heterogeneous lines of resistance.

The exhibition can be visited every day between 12.00-18.00, except for Sundays, between 14-28 October.

Opening: October 14, 17.00-20.00

Against the techno-optimistic, dazzling and progressive narrative of mainstream new media, glitch and pixel-based art practices, the exhibition follows 'started on the wrong foot' and 'life shifting instead of pixels' situations. Believing that multiple and major shifts are not necessary to produce glitches, pursues the radicality of an insolent sidestep. It does not fall for the saturation of images produced through an abundance of data and investigates who is disadvantaged by missing pixels. Considering the glitch to be the totality of emancipatory practices that take advantage of or expose the intermittent signals created by dysfunctional bureaucracies and proposes to combine them with punk methods to create resistance.
