About the Artist
I stand on the ground and find myself gazing across the blue sea. What we notice often reveals what we expect to see.
In my world, lovers always win, children always take their revenge, and a wild imagination can bring anything to earth.
Art begins with curiosity, tenderness, unbridled play, and the rarest forms of desire.
I make work in moments when I find myself close to transcendence, among the mysterious conditions of existence.
I have respect for the wildness of nature and the path of moonlight.
Besides magic, life is also political, and I define myself as an anarchist, not afraid of any king or god, with the beliefe than I'm human, there I'm free.
Everything I can imagine is real, just like this life is a dream. Love is the law, love under the will.
Dilara Savut, also known as Vovo, is an artist based between İstanbul and North Aegean coast. She works with drawing, writing, photography, design, publications, and installations. She received a bachelor’s degree in Film and Television in 2022 and has been involved with alternative school Nesin Villages since 2015.
Her work explores technology, society, and cybernetics, drawing on anarchist, anti-authoritarian, and Dionysian thought. Among her influences are Hakim Bey, Jorge Luis Borges, and Austin Osman Spare.
Vovo is interested in super-fictions: stories, images, and beliefs that shape how people perceive reality and imagine life together. She builds science-fiction worlds through speculative research, combining visual work, writing, publications, and installations.
Nine Stories In Between Across the Infinite Garden, Speculative fiction, artistic research, multimedia · 2024–25 // A sequence of nine stories that meet across different times and geographies. Through fiction and design research, they imagine alternative technological and social futures. (x)
Her research also asks how different kinds of fiction—geographical, historical, social, political, religious, and those produced by the media—shape places and collective imagination. Her approach brings together archives, images from mass media, symbols found in public space, and observation of everyday life.
Near and the Elsewhere, Artistic research, photography, multimedia · 2018–23 // Intuitive study of urban experience through archives and ideas about cybernetics, power, urban design, and behavioral architecture. It began with a photographic study of İstanbul’s Esenler Bus Terminal. (x)
Working with communities and collectives is another part of her practice. She explores alternative ways of being together: how bonds form, and how memories are made and preserved across places and generations.
The Station, Nesin Villages Association , Co-founder · 2020–2026 // An experimental platform exploring the liberating potential of the commons. Through artistic and cultural projects, it brings different groups together, creates temporary communities, and uses the Village as a place to explore shared histories and possible futures. (X)
Kindergarten for Uncanny Children, Participatory art, workshop series // A series of workshops creating space for collective imagination, self-expression, and the visualization of abstract thoughts through different materials and practices. (X)
Her research interests include commons and commoning, guerrilla art, sovereignty, network states, cosmolocalism, and technological utopias. She is particularly interested in how these ideas might help people build more equal forms of social life.
Recently, she created a zine with the privacy collective w3pn, introducing cypherpunk ideas and pirate utopias. (X)
Drawing is a way for her to connect different emotions, forms of intelligence, and experiences. She is also interested in Theosophy and Anthroposophy, and develops her own methods through automatic writing, meditation, and rituals involving nature and light. (X)
She is currently making abstract drawings and automatic writings, and sharing research through 999 Book Club (x) and her blog, Aioleïs. (X)
She continues to work independently as an artist and freelance designer.
